Ophelia
A Play
3W, 3M (non-binary actors encouraged for any role)
Ophelia is a young woman confined by the harsh gender roles enforced by her strict father and merciless brother. When she turns to her friend (the closeted Prince Hamlet) for help, he offers to marry her to keep them both safe. But when Hamlet's father dies under mysterious circumstances, he becomes consumed with revenge and reneges on his promise. Ophelia, left alone to confront the harsh realities of patriarchal society, seeks solace in the arms of her handmaiden. A queer take on a Shakespearean classic, that asks: who among us has not been driven mad by the whims of men?
